Father God, may I call you Papa? Or Abba? (tears are flowing~~)
My “God Shot” today came from the Bible Recap transcript of today’s reading, which talked about the Last Supper. The words that leaped off the page to me were “hard hearts.”
Oh, may my heart be soft!
I was trying to capture in my mind and soul what the theme of Your teaching me this year might be. This was it: so many of Your people have hard hearts. I have been confused by this phenomenon, even in my own family and my own circle of Christian brothers and sisters. I don’t doubt their salvation; it is not mine to question or judge. I have been confused, angered, frustrated, and disheartened by their intractable commitment to beliefs that do not reflect softness or compassion or, as far as I can see, faithfulness to Your ways — to Your heart.
And then I get pulled up short and asked about the log in my own eye. Am *I* being judgmental? What makes me think I am right and everyone else is wrong? If I am right, how do I interact supportively with those who are wrong? If I am wrong, how do I listen to correction and receive it with a softened heart?
Soft heart.
Soft heart.
May You soften my heart, Abba. You are the One who hardens and softens hearts to accomplish Your purposes and Your will. I really want to be on the side of Your will, with a heart softened to be like You.
